Kevin is Mean!

Kevin being the trainer Brandon and I worked with today. And mean in the highly sarcastic 'Oh my god you're not really planning on making me do all that?' kinda way, not in the 'Dear gods, why are you making me do this?' way.

So. My goals are to lose about 50-60 pounds, and to tone, especially in the abdominals and legs. Kevin said to shoot for loving 6 pounds in the first month .. I fully expect to love more than that, but maybe not by much.

Since we're going to be in the gym 5 days a week, he wants me to do 3 days of cardio/abs/stretch, and 2 days of total body strength training, which need to be 72 hours apart.

For cardio work, I have two options. Option #1 is warming up till I break out in a sweat, then 40 minutes at my target heart rate, which is 139-144, then a 5-10 minutes cool down. Option #2 is sprint training, where I warm up till I break out in a sweat, then I do 20 seconds-2 minutes of step/pedal/run/swim like someone's chasing after me with a gun, then slow down to the equivalent of a fast walk/slow jog until my breathing returns to normal. This gets repeated for 20-25 minutes, then I cool down for 5-10 minutes.

Let me just say, option #2? Sounds like hell.

For strength training I'll be doing 2-3 sets of 10-15 reps per machine. He said something about rows 1 and 4, but I don't know what he meant by that, exactly. he never did really explain it. But we stayed for a legs and abs session after the planning session and we got to learn a few of the machines. I did leg presses (2 sets/12 reps), hip abductor (2 sets/12 reps on both machines) and stationary lunges, which are also hell. Especially the short ones. I can really feel my muscles burn doing those.

Then we also did some ab and stretch work. Mostly just some crunches .. until failure, as he put it .. and then some good leg and glute stretches. Let me tell you. I am -wore out-. But I know it's good for me. Maybe next wednesday I can get in to do an upper body training, so I can really start with the strength training stuff. I don't expect to be trying the sprint training for a little while. Another week maybe.
